The Best Burritos of Redding

Alex Anderson February 19, 2019

Breakfast, Lunch, or Dinner, burritos are always an option.

Carne Asada, Carnitas, Shrimp, Breakfast, California, Lao… they’re all different colors of a burrito rainbow. We’ve been pretty lucky here in Redding to have plenty of spots to enjoy this iconic Mexican dish. Here’s a few of our favorite spots:

El Zarape

Located off of Twin View Blvd is El Zarape Tacqueria. I stumbled upon this place in 2018 and it quickly became my go to for the perfect ‘non-coma inducing’ Carne Asada Burrito. Their steak is perfectly cooked and seasoned, and rarely do I get the chewy bits that no one like. I order with no beans to cut down on the unnecessary carbs. With a side of chips, salsa, and pickled carrots, you’ll be in heaven.

Los Gordos

Los Gordos is a definite local favorite. As an authentic Mexican Taqueria they offer a lot of different menu items, all delicious. Their burritos come in multiple different styles, with a lot of options. It’s definitely a bit hefty and will undoubtedly get your moneys worth! They have a location downtown on the corner of Pine and Shasta, and another location on the south end of Churn Creek.

Madayne Eatery & Espresso

Let’s talk breakfast. Whether you had a rough night and need a burrito to bring you out of it, or you’re on your way to work and need to grab something on the way, this place has you covered. They have 6 different breakfast burritos all under 8 dollars! Our favorites are ‘The All American’ (Egg, Potato, Smoked Bacon, Texas Aioli Sauce & Aged Cheddar) and the Norcal Denver (Egg, Potato, Bacon, Smoked Ham & Aged Cheddar). You can see their full menu on their site.

El Delicioso Burrito

Some people might stay away from a burrito place inside of a gas station, but we are not those people. We choose not to judge a burrito by its restaurant aesthetics, but instead by what’s on the inside [of the tortilla]. The Shasta Jumbo Burrito is a heaping portions of Carne Asada, sour cream, guacamole, french fries, and joy. I’m guessing they sell most of these at 20 past 4 PM, because they are the perfect cure for the munchies. It’ll sit you down and shut you up, but damn it’s good.
